Frontier Research in Astrophysics and Particle Physics: "Dark Science with Clusters of Galaxies" by Esra Bulbul

Start date: 30/04/2021 11:45 End date: 30/04/2021 12:45

Dr. Esra Bulbul, from MPE (Garching) will give us a talk titled: "Dark Science with Clusters of Galaxies".

"Galaxy clusters trace the highest peaks in the cosmic density field and offer an independent and powerful probe of the growth of structure, because their abundance and its evolution is strongly dependent on the underlying cosmology. They are ideal targets for searches of exotic particles that make up the majority of matter in the Universe as they represent the largest collapsed concentrations of dark matter. The availability of the new all sky survey of galaxy groups and clusters in the X-ray band with eROSITA will put us on the verge of a breakthrough  in precision cosmology and dark matter  searches. I will summarise the state of the art in these areas and will present the outlook for new eROSITA All-Sky Survey."

The seminar will be held remotely via zoom due to travel restrictions. You are welcome to attend. The seminar is open to everyone at IFCA. After the lecture, Eusebio will discuss with the students and any teacher of the degree.

The format this year is slightly modified from previous years, but for the general public it is almost transparent: in the first part the speaker gives a talk of approximately 50 minutes, followed by an open session of approximately 10 minutes for questions from the general public.

After this, the general public is dismissed, and the speaker will remain with the students (and any master professor who wishes to stay) for an informal discussion which lasts approximately 30 minutes.
