Frontier Research in Astrophysics and Particle Physics: "Large-scale structure galaxy surveys" by Eusebio Sánchez
Start date: 19/04/2021 11:45
End date: 19/04/2021 12:45
Eusebio Sánchez, from CIEMAT (Madrid) will give us a talk titled: "Large-scale structure galaxy survey".
"Galaxy surveys are an important tool for cosmology. They allow the study
of the distribution of galaxies, their shapes and some other properties
that allow a precise determination of the contents of the Universe and
other cosmological parameters. In this seminar we will review how to
extract cosmological information from galaxy surveys, using the
clustering of galaxies, the weak gravitational lensing and other
observables. We will describe how these measurements are performed and
their current status. Finally, a very brief overview of future projects will be presented."
The seminar will be held remotely via zoom due to travel restrictions. You are welcome to attend. The seminar is open to everyone at IFCA. After the lecture, Eusebio will discuss with the students and any teacher of the degree.
The format this year is slightly modified from previous years, but for the general public it is almost transparent: in the first part the speaker gives a talk of approximately 50 minutes, followed by an open session of approximately 10 minutes for questions from the general public.
After this, the general public is dismissed, and the speaker will remain with the students (and any master professor who wishes to stay) for an informal discussion which lasts approximately 30 minutes.
