Do you live in a Multiverse?
This talk gives a pedestrian friendly introduction to the Multiverse, i.e., the idea that our universe is only one among many "parallel" universes. While we will discuss various different Multiverse ideas, the quantum Multiverse and the (in)famous quantum measurement problem will be discussed in some greater detail. Emphasis will be put on the fact that Multiverses are scientific predictions (and not postulates), and we try to weigh various pros and cons in favor/against them (falsifiability, Occam's razor, fine-tuning, anthropic reasoning, etc.). After the talk you will be all convinced that you live in a Multiverse in one universe, in another not. That's science.
In this universe Philipp Strasberg is a Ramon y Cajal fellow at IFCA and a member of the Foundational Questions Institute working on the foundations of statistical mechanics and the quantum-to-classical transition.
The talk will take place in the Luis Pesquera Room at IFCA at 12:00. Coffee will be served beforehand at 11:45.
*We encourage all IFCA staff, postdocs, thesis supervisors, and others to attend.
