Las mañanas IFCA con Juan M. López: "Complex systems: Giorgio Parisi's Nobel Prize in Physics 2021"
Start date: 11/03/2022 12:00
End date: 11/03/2022 13:00
"The Nobel Prize in Physics 2021 was awarded to Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann, and Giorgio Parisi for groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex systems. In this talk I will discuss the theoretical work of G. Parisi on the effects of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems that have made him a much deserved recipient of this award. In particular, we will talk about his contribution to our understanding of the dynamics of spin-glasses and how a problem arising in magnetic physical systems has so deep and far-reaching implications in other branches of science, including: neural networks, machine learning, algorithmic complexity, and satisfiability problems in computer science."
