Las mañanas IFCA con Prafulla Behera: "Search for new physics at CMS"

Start date: 01/03/2022 10:30 End date: 01/03/2022 11:30

"The Standard Model of Particle Physics has been exceptionally successful in explaining all known physical phenomena for more than 50 years. After the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN, and no hint of existence of new physics like SUSY, it is time to look for physics with precision measurements. One of the potential areas is to look for CP violation, though CP violation has been measured in Bd decays by B-factories like BELLE and BABAR experiments, but still need more for Bs decays. I will focus on the CP violation in Bs decays to J/psi Phi in CMS. I will also discuss other potential areas of physics where we can probe new physics."

Professor Prafulla Kumar Behera is working at the Department of Physics, IIT Madras, India. He received his Ph.D from Belle experiment and subsequently worked as a postdoc at University of Pennsylvania for BABAR experiment. He moved to University of Iowa as research scientist to work on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. He made significant contribution to the integration and commissioning of the ATLAS pixel detector at the start of LHC. He led IIT Madras to CMS experiment, and his group is contributing to the CMS tracker upgrade as well as CMS data analysis. He has established a leading instrumentation laboratory at IIT Madras. The first observation of Omega_c* was made by him at BABAR experiment.

La charla tendrá lugar en la Sala Marie Curie del IFCA a las 10:30 y en streaming a través del canal de YouTube del IFCA.
