ESP2006-13608-C02-01: Spanish participation in the X-ray Astronomy missions of the European Space Agency (2007-2009)

The goal of this project is to continue and expand the Spanish participation in the X-ray Astronomy space missions of ESA XMM-Newton and XEUS in the future.

On the one hand we will continue with the participation in the XMM-Newton Survey Science Centre (SSC) operations in software, quality control of the pipeline data products, the 2XMM source catalogue and the conclusion of the source identification programmes.

On the other hand, this projet aims at securing a suitable participation of Spain in the next ESA X-ray Astronomy mission XEUS, in view of the consolidation of the scientific plan "Cosmic Vision 2020" and of the call for missions to implement it. Firt, we will conduct the Spanish participation in the EURECA project, an instrument prototype with high spectral resolution and imaging capabilities in X-rays, based on Transition Edge Sensors (fabrication, characterization and optimization of new sensors and the software of the prototype. Second we will mantain and expand the Spanish presence in the prparatory activities of XEUS (scientific support, preparation for an instrument - evolution of EURECA - and previous work for the creation of a Data Centre).
