AYA2009-08059: X-ray Astronomy missions: from XMM-Newton to SIMBOL-X and IXO (2010)

This project deals with X-ray Astronomy space missions where there is either consolidated or prospective participation from Spain (support, scientific exploitation and preparatory activities)

XMM-Newton will continue to be the workhorse in X-ray Astronomy in Europe for the coming years. New opportunities to explore its already rich science archive are now emerging by accessing to multiple observations of the same target that have been completed throughout the years.

Concerning future X-ray Astronomy missions, the long term target for the whole international world-wide community is IXO (International X-ray Observatory), to which success our team is fully commited.

On a shorter time frame, an opportunity has arosen for Spain to become a partner of SIMBOL-X.
