"Accelerators beyond colliders"
When we think of particle accelerators, we usually imagine enormous colliders such as the LHC. However, the vast majority of accelerators around the world are not used for Particle Physics, but for a wide range of applications spanning from medicine to the study of materials and biological systems.
In this talk, we will explore some of these applications, as well as emerging technologies such as plasma acceleration, which could define the next generation of accelerators.
Paula Desiré is currently pursuing a PhD in Accelerator Physics at CERN in Geneva. Her work focuses on simulating particle behavior in accelerators in order to design future machines and diagnose issues in existing accelerators.
She studied a double Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics, followed by a Master’s degree in Particle Physics and Cosmology at the University of Cantabria. She was also a fellow at IFCA within the High Energy Physics group, where she worked on data analysis for the CMS experiment at CERN. Paula is also actively involved in science communication, both through social media and as a guide within CERN’s facilities.
La charla tendrá lugar en la Sala Luis Pesquera del IFCA a las 12:00. Café previo a las 11:45.
*Animamos a asistir a todo el personal del IFCA, postdocs, directores de tesis, etc.
