The centre's metrology laboratory was the first to obtain this recognition in 2008
24th November 2020
The IFCA (CSIC-UC) carries out important work in the design and development of instruments in different areas of knowledge, in response to increasingly demanding scientific needs. However, the development of these areas would not be possible without the existence of high-performance technological instruments and equipment, which has made the development of certain technical capacities possible.
The centre obtained the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification for the first time in 2008 and adapted to the ISO 9001:2015 standard in 2017. Specifically, it was the metrology laboratory that received the certification, aimed, among other things, at a policy of promoting R+D+i and the development of SMEs in Cantabria. A laboratory that, during its years of work, also contributes to the development of one of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiments at CERN (European Centre for Particle Physics).
Now the institute is renewing the
ISO 9001:2015 certification in several of its
scientific equipment and public activities. On this occasion, it is responsible for the services of dimensional verification of parts, calibration of length measurement instruments, electrical characterisation of semiconductors, precision machining and technological surveillance in the areas of instrumentation and detection techniques in High Energy Physics, Cosmology and radioactive environments (nuclear, space and medicine) and industrial applications.
Search for excellence
The recognition, granted by AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification), shows that the quality management system of the physisca centre continues to be in line with the standard, focusing on the elements of quality management that an institution must have in order to achieve an effective system that allows it to manage and improve its processes and services. And, in the case of IFCA, contributing to the commitment to continuous improvement and the search for excellence and fulfilling the objective of putting its means and capacities at the service of society.
