This activity takes place in IFCA. It belongs to several educational journeys promote by
International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG). Students come to IFCA, where some researchers teach them about particle physics and measure methodology.
Next, students proceed to make real measures from CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) helped by researchers.
Finally, youngsters participate in a videoconference where other students groups are developing the same activity.

Every year, more than 13,000 secondary school students from 52 countries come to one of the 215 universities or research centres participating in the "International Masterclasses - Hands on Particle Physics". Their aim: to unveil the mysteries of particle physics. This initiative allows students to spend a day analysing data from real experiments carried out with the world's largest particle accelerator, CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), becoming particle physicists for a day. They also get to know the university or a nearby research centre in their city, in our case the IFCA, and during the day they learn new concepts of great interest in particle physics, and they make contact with students from other research centres and European students. Naturally, the method is always adjusted to the students' knowledge, so that it is accessible and fun for them.
The Master Classes are given by active research staff who provide the necessary insight into fundamental topics of matter and forces, and basic research methods. They also provide the tools to perform the measurements with the LHC data. And at the end of the day, as in the international collaborations, students join a videoconference to share and discuss their results.
"International Masterclasses - Hands on Particle Physics" is an activity coordinated by IPPOG, an international group specialised in the dissemination of particle physics. It takes place in different Spanish research centres, including IFCA.
