IFCA’s activity highlighted in Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022


The ranking, which analyzes 54 global areas, places these IFCA contributions among the international elite

The result consolidates the excellence of these IFCA activity areas

In the latest Shanghai report by subjects (2022), the University of Cantabria (UC) stands out in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Instrumental Science and Technology (for the first time), Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics and Human Biological Sciences. The activity of the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA, CSIC-UC) stands out in the first three areas (Physics, Atmospheric Sciences and Instrumental Science and Technology), with the first two being among the 151-200 universities in the world and among the Top 7 in Spain.

The subject of Instrumental Science and Technology (between 201-300) stands out for the first time at the UC, to which IFCA also contributes with one of its transverse lines of synergy, promoted in the last Strategic Plan with the support of the of Excellence María de Maeztu and with the support of the Ministry of Universities, Equality, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria through the project "Instrumentation and data science to probe the nature of the universe". This activity of the institute, developing instrumentation within the framework of Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology, will continue to be a priority at IFCA and will have the support of the Complementary Plan of the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the project "Advanced technologies for the exploration of the universe and its components", financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the NextGenerationEU funds.

SHANGHAI CLASSIFICATION

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) has been published by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy since 2009. GRAS 2022 contains university rankings in 54 subjects from Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. More than 1.800 of 5.000 universities from 96 countries and regions appear in the ranking.

The Shanghai Global Ranking (ARWU), which has not yet been published this year, is considered one of the most well-known rankings worldwide and has been compiled since 2003 by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China).
